In Their Own Words
“I was reluctant to make that call because I felt like I was attacking my doctor personally and attacking his credibility, but deep down I knew that I was the one who had to speak for my children, they couldn’t speak for themselves.”

Parents’ Instinct Leads to
Help from Philadelphia Birth Injury Attorney
Many mothers and fathers have incredible instincts when it comes to their children. Some of us call it a sixth sense; that feeling that something just isn’t right. Even before our children are born, that instinct can be extremely powerful. Jane and Mike Walker found themselves in just such a situation. For them, it involved the delivery and birth of their quadruplets.
Jane knew, from the time she woke up on Saturday morning, 26 weeks into a high-risk pregnancy with quads, that something was wrong. She was having severe, left-sided back pain and nausea. Jane and Mike immediately called their doctor and left their home to make the hour plus drive to the hospital to meet him, as he requested. They were surprised, after several hours, to be sent home, with Jane still in pain. They did not agree and requested that Jane remain in the hospital, but the doctor reassured them that everything was fine. So, they reluctantly returned home. After all, who were Jane and Mike to question the decision of a doctor? They clearly did not have the same qualifications and knowledge.
Yet, their instincts were tragically right. Jane returned home and, shortly thereafter, delivered one child in the bathroom! Her remaining 3 daughters thankfully were born in the hospital, after being rushed there via helicopter. Sadly, all four daughters were born too early and suffered severe birth injuries due to their prematurity, including cerebral palsy.
After things settled down, Jane had another instinct: that what the doctor did was wrong and that someone should investigate what happened. That’s when she came to our law firm. Jane was reluctant at first, but she made the call: “I was reluctant to make that call because I felt like I was attacking my doctor personally and attacking his credibility, but deep down I knew that I was the one who had to speak for my children, they couldn’t speak for themselves. They didn’t know the law. I had to be the one to step in and say, maybe there was something wrong. I don’t know, I am not the professional to decide that, but I am going to follow my gut instinct and have our situation evaluated. “
The Walkers were able to find the help they needed from an experienced Philadelphia birth injury attorney. Our firm routinely handles such complex birth injury cases. We conducted a thorough investigation, consulting experienced obstetricians and neonatologists, and other medical experts, and were advised that Jane’s instincts were right! Her doctor should not have sent her home that Saturday because she had very clear, early signs of preterm labor that could easily have been stopped with the right medical care. We pursued a claim on behalf of Jane, Mike and their four daughters. Thanks to Jane’s instincts, the recovery our firm obtained for them provided tens of millions of dollars for the childrens’ needs over their lifetimes.
